Visionics Corporation, the leading developer of face recognition technology worldwide, announced Monday that Intel Corporation has adopted the FaceIt engine for its 21st century Connected.Home initiative, an effort to establish affordable, easy-to-use, and broadly deployed network connectivity to and within the home.
Intel's Connected.Home initiative researches and develops technologies that meet the information, communication and accessibility needs within the home. "Face recognition technology gives the computer an added dimension of intelligence. Until today, computers have had no awareness of their users," said Dr. Joseph J. Atick, president and CEO of Visionics Corporation. "Imagine a situation in which a child attempts to access a desktop and FaceIt recognizes the child and immediately customizes the options based on his/her favorite cartoons, academic interests, etc."
"Face recognition is a user-friendly and non-intrusive biometric technology ideally suited for use in the home. Intel is pleased to be working with a strong player such as Visionics in fulfilling our vision of the connected home," said Casey Fale, Product Manager of Intel Corporation.
Connected.Home will be a major element of Intel's upcoming Developer's Forum. The proof of concept was developed under the supervision of Intel Corporation by New Jersey based QVoice, Inc., which is also providing voice recognition as a secondary biometric for the Connected.Home initiative.
"As a company which specializes in multi-layered biometrics, it is clear to me that FaceIt technology is the most appealing in the home environment since it is inexpensive, easy to use, friendly and has no criminal connotations," said Norm Hughes, President of QVoice Inc.
