Exodus Introduces Comprehensive Suite of Internet Security Consulting Services; Three-Tiered Solution Delivers Up-Front Analysis of Customer Security Requirements; - Company Business and Marketing

Edge: Work-Group Computing Report, Sept 6, 1999

Exodus Communications, Inc., a leader in complex Internet hosting and managed services, Monday announced the availability of the Exodus Security Service Pack, a comprehensive suite of security consulting services designed to assist customers who are seeking the highest levels of security for their mission-critical Internet operations. The Exodus Security Service Pack offering includes three tiers of services that provide customers with ongoing expertise to plan, assess and respond to the security issues related to conducting business over the Internet. Exodus' new security services leverage the proven expertise of its subsidiary, Arca Systems, to significantly expand its managed and professional service offerings for the enterprise.

These cost-effective solutions combine some of the most important elements required for ongoing and comprehensive attention to security, including: a documented security plan and security policy to establish customer requirements, periodic security vulnerability scans of customer sites to identify potential risks, intrusion response to provide expert assistance in the event of a security breach, and frequent security alerts to inform customers of current security threats.

Also, Exodus Security Service Pack customers are provided with a Security Account Manager (SAM) who will serve as a central point of contact for ongoing management of the customer's security requirements. The SAM, a trained security engineer, is responsible for understanding the customer's specific operating environment, and will proactively work with the customer to provide ongoing security expertise. The SAM assesses the customer's needs, leads the security plan and security risk analysis, and drives plan implementations.

Arca's Proven Security Expertise

Exodus is leveraging the expertise and experience that Arca has developed in its 11 years of operation. Arca's staff of chief scientist, distinguished engineers and security professionals are available for customers at Exodus' 13 operational Internet Data Centers (IDCs) worldwide. Arca is one of the first U.S.-based evaluation facilities authorized by the U.S. Government's National Security Agency (NSA) to certify compliance with the federal government's Common Criteria standards for security software products and systems.

The rapid growth of business on the Internet has dramatically increased the need for implementing secure and cost-effective security solutions. As Web sites become increasingly complex and valuable, companies are realizing that security requirements expand far beyond the installation of a firewall. Proper planning, configuration and ongoing vulnerability testing are required to ensure that appropriate security policies are implemented and remain effective. Preparation for incidents such as security attacks must be made in advance to ensure that Web sites recover as quickly as possible. Companies that outsource Web site operations now have the tools and solutions available from Exodus for comprehensive 24 x 7 Internet security.

"Mission-critical businesses require peace-of-mind and round-the-clock professional security services. Our security consulting suite is comprehensive, affordable and scalable, and leverages the integration of Arca Systems into Exodus' program of managed professional complex Web hosting services," said Ellen M. Hancock, president and CEO of Exodus. "Our security consulting packages not only minimize risk and safeguard customers networks against unauthorized access and intrusion, they also protect something customers cannot afford to lose--their reputation."

Complements Existing Security Services

Complementing the Exodus Security Service Pack is a variety of existing solutions including electronic (e.g., managed firewall, vulnerability analysis and intrusion detection services) and physical solutions (e.g., the Exodus Vault, the industry's first maximum security space for outsourced internet operations) that were introduced in 1998 for customers who want the highest levels of protection for their network assets.

Security Consulting Packages, Pricing and Availability

Exodus is currently offering three security-consulting packages: Basic, Enhanced, and Professional (Pro). The Basic Pack, priced at $1,975/month, is a comprehensive package that includes semi-annual consultation with the customer's SAM, a Security Plan, semi-annual security reviews, alert reports, semi-annual external remote vulnerability scans, security engineering support, incident response pre-planning and eight hours of incident response team support. The Enhanced Pack, priced at $3,300/month, includes all of the components of the Basic, with the addition of quarterly SAM consultations, consultation and guidance to aid the customer in producing a security policy, security reviews every quarter, quarterly external remote vulnerability scans, and increased security engineering support and incident response team support.
