Maxspeed Linux Desktop Devices to be Bundled With Corel Linux OS and WordPerfect Office 2000 for Linux - Company Business and Marketing

Edge: Work-Group Computing Report, April 24, 2000

Corel Corporation (NASDAQ: CORL, TSE: COR) and Maxspeed Corporation Tuesday announced that the two companies have entered into an OEM agreement, which they anticipate will accelerate widespread use of Linux-based office applications on the desktop.

Under the agreement, Corel will bundle Corel LINUX OS and WordPerfect Office 2000 for Linux with Maxspeed's desktop devices, bridging the hardware and software gap to enable Linux broad-based expansion into the office desktop environment.

"Partnering with one of the leaders in Linux desktop devices strengthens Corel's vision to provide Linux on the desktop," said Dr. Michael Cowpland, president and chief executive officer of Corel Corporation. "Excitement is building as more applications become available for use on Linux. Corel and Maxspeed are working together to give customers a more cost efficient alternative."

"This agreement, combining Linux-based hardware and software, is a major step in bringing this highly desirable Linux operating system to the desktop," said Wei Ching, president and CEO of Maxspeed. "Through agreements like this, Maxspeed intends to bring to customers Linux solutions that are comparable to Windows-based office suites. We anticipate a long and fruitful relationship with Corel."

Maxspeed's MaxStation, MaxTerm UT and One Station desktop devices allow multiple users to share one Linux server eliminating the need for PCs on the desktop. These devices offer dramatic cost savings with greatly improved reliability, simplicity, enhanced performance, faster speed, and ease of installation versus Wintel-based PC networks.

The Maxspeed-Corel bundled hardware and software will be available in late spring 2000.
