Legato Expands in Canada to Deliver Enhanced Sales and Customer Support; Expansion in Response to Growing Demand for Information Continuance Solutions for Booming Internet Businesses - Company Operations

Edge: Work-Group Computing Report, Feb 14, 2000

Legato Systems, Inc., the leader in enterprise storage management software, Monday announced it is expanding operations in Canada by establishing a complete sales and sales engineering force to better support Canada's rapidly growing Internet businesses. Additionally, the company's Burlington, Ontario site houses the headquarters of Legato's worldwide, 24x7 customer support operations, and a major research and development center for the company, both of which are expanding.

"By establishing a sales and support staff in Canada, we are able to address

the Canadian market's demand for 24x7 availability for both data and applications," said Mario Ianniciello, Legato sales director for Canada. "Canada's e-commerce and Internet businesses are growing exponentially and because we provide the Information Continuance and data security they need, customers can focus on what they do best, growing their own businesses."

"We found Legato's technology to be superior to any other solution available in the marketplace," says Peter Crane, Merrill Lynch operations manager. "We have over 100 retail branches across this country and Legato NetWorker backs up every one of them! Legato's investment in Canada is already paying off for us. Their team is showing us ways to leverage our investment with an enterprise-wide storage management initiative." Expansion of Worldwide Customer Support Headquarters

Legato is also expanding the worldwide technical support services headquarters in Burlington, Ontario. This location is responsible for managing all support facilities located across the globe. In the last year, Legato has doubled the staff of the customer support organization. In order to keep up with customer support needs, Legato will continue to increase the customer service personnel in Canada.

Due to Legato's rapid expansion in the Canadian market, it now occupies 30,000 square feet in the Burlington area and will add another 20,000 before this spring. Legato's commitment to Canada is evident in the new seven-story, 125,000 square foot building now under construction. Legato will be the major tenant in this building that should be ready for occupancy in November of this year.

The new building will provide facilities for the customer support staff and one of Legato's largest and growing research and development centers. The sales force will be based out of Montreal with other offices throughout Canada. Customer Seminar Series

As part of the sales and sales support expansion, Legato is offering a series of Information Continuance Seminars across Canada to help customers understand how they can address keeping information available whenever it is needed. Designed for end-users, the seminars feature Aberdeen Group analyst, David Hill. The seminars will have an executive session for CIOs and IT managers and a technical session to demonstrate the powerful capabilities of Legato's Information Continuance.

The first seminar is February 23 in Toronto. The seminars will include many of Legato's Canadian partners and system integrators that will help train customers on the additional solutions the Information Continuance business strategy provides them.
