HP Announces Powertrust II-LR Uninterruptible Power Solutions; New UPS Products Add Value to HP Enterprise Solutions - Product Announcement

Edge: Work-Group Computing Report, Feb 21, 2000

Hewlett-Packard Company Tuesday announced the double-conversion HP PowerTrust II-LR uninterruptible power system (UPS).

The new PowerTrust line comprises three models, which can be configured in a rack or deskside configuration. They include two 2.0kVA/1.4kW (120V or 230V) models and one 3.0kVA/2.1kW (230V) model, and are ideally suited for those who need high availability for their operations. The PowerTrust II-LR is ideal for environments with rapidly expanding numbers of users and servers, hubs, routers and other rack-mounted equipment. Its single-phase input offers true online double-conversion technology to provide continuous power for business-critical computing.

With its advanced power-protection technology and industry-leading reduction in size (only 4EIU), the new PowerTrust II-LR UPS brings a new level of quality and reliability to power protection. On power-up, the PowerTrust II-LR performs extensive diagnostics and thus ensures ultimate reliability.

In addition, further diagnostics are performed during operation, constantly making micro-adjustments to ensure premium power. These new units are also equipped with a communications port for adding the optional HP PowerTrust II-LR Web/SNMP card for interactive local and remote power management. This will allow easy monitoring, management and automatic orderly shutdown capabilities for remote UPS-protected devices via any Web browser or SNMP monitor, such as HP OpenView.

HP PowerTrust solutions are the only power-protection solutions available today that have been designed and tested to meet HP's stringent quality, safety and supportability standards, ensuring complete interoperability with HP enterprise solutions.

Extended Backup Time with Hot-swap Capability

The new solutions are designed with external battery packs, allowing customers to configure the UPS with up to five battery packs to achieve up to 115 minutes of backup time. The external battery packs are hot-swappable, allowing customers to ensure 24x7 operations by removing the pack for servicing without taking down the system.

"HP's new power-protection value-added solutions are vital for mission-critical applications," said Mark J. Fragoso, UPS marketing manager for HP's Complementary Products Division. "The solutions work seamlessly with HP ups_monD communication software built into the HP-UX(1) operating environment, ensuring out-of-the-box compatibility for system shutdown and recovery with HP enterprise solutions."

"Meeting the needs of our customers in mission-critical applications is our ongoing goal," said Graham Valentine, general manager of HP's Complementary Products Division. "The introduction of these products represents the most recent accomplishment toward that goal."

Further enhancements and additional products are scheduled to be released later this year.
