Aware Expands DSL Technology Offering to Include Multiport Solutions - technology for multiport DSL chipsets - Company Business and Marketing

Edge: Work-Group Computing Report, Jan 31, 2000

Aware, Inc., a worldwide leader in DSL (digital subscriber line) technology for high-speed Internet access over existing telephone networks, Tuesday announced the availability of a new technology offering optimized for multiport DSL chipsets.

Aware's technology for multiport solutions enables a single chipset to support multiple lines of DSL service. The telephone network, which connects hundreds of millions of homes worldwide, contains aggregation points for the telephone lines that connect residences. These aggregation points are either central offices or digital loop carrier cabinets. Multiport silicon architectures that enable higher port density in DSL system equipment at these aggregation points translate into more efficient use of space and power, and consequently a lower cost per line served.

Michael Tzannes, president and chief executive officer of Aware said: "As the DSL market ramps toward mass deployments, the value of power-efficient and space-efficient solutions grows. Aware has developed a highly optimized multiport solution that reduces silicon area and cost, without compromising system performance. Multiport solutions are increasingly becoming a requirement in central office DSL chipsets. We recognize this and are responding to the market needs with a one-of-a-kind technology package."

Tzannes added: "Our goal is to offer semiconductor manufacturers market-responsive technology that may be flexibly mapped across the multitude of silicon solutions that are required to enable DSL services. Aware's objective is to combine our DSL expertise with the strong technology, manufacturing and distribution capabilities of each of our semiconductor customers to provide a winning technology solution in this rapidly changing, highly competitive industry."

Aware, Inc. designs, develops, licenses and markets DSL technology that enables broadband communications over existing telephone networks. Its solutions, including splitterless G.Lite and full-rate ADSL, address central office as well consumer electronics requirements. The company licenses its intellectual property and software to semiconductor manufacturers and equipment manufacturers who sell products incorporating Aware's technology. Aware also markets to systems companies to encourage them to design its technology into their products, and to service providers to encourage them to deploy new broadband services based on its technology.
