Compaq to Include Adaptec's Easy CD Creator 4.0 With Best-selling Desktops; Award-winning CD-Recording Software will Ship with Presario Computer Systems

Edge: Work-Group Computing Report, June 5, 2000

Adaptec Inc. (Nasdaq: ADPT), the global leader in innovative storage solutions, Tuesday announced that Compaq Computer Corporation's EMEA division (serving Europe, Middle East and Africa) will begin including Adaptec Easy CD Creator 4.0 software with Presario PC desktop computers shipped in that region.

"Easy CD Creator 4.0 software will allow our customers to make the most efficient use of their CD-R or CD-RW drives," said Michel Landman, Compaq's EMEA consumer product marketing manager. "With a variety of CD utilities and a user-friendly interface, Adaptec's software provides ease of use without sacrificing quality."

Adaptec's Easy CD Creator 4.0 allows users to easily create data, audio and multimedia CDs on their PCs, record downloaded Internet music (including MP3 tracks), and make personal CD labels, covers and inserts. CD Guide, an animated host, makes it easy for beginners and intermediate users to effectively use Easy CD Creator 4, the most powerful CD recording software currently available.

"Adaptec CD-recording software is making it easier for people to archive their important data and bring true portability to their favorite music" said Tom Shea, general manager of Adaptec's Software Products Group. "Easy CD Creator has made CD-Recording a household concept, and is quickly making Adaptec and its partners the leaders in this new marketing model."

In addition to being highly recommended by Personal Computer World, Easy CD Creator 4.0 won EMedia Professional's Editor's Choice award in November 1999. ZDNet also recommends Easy CD Creator v4.0: "It's the best software for writing CDs, and that's what you want. If the computer makes any mistake while it writes the CD, the blank is ruined and can't be used again. So it really pays to get good software."

Designed for the home or small business user, Compaq's Presario desktops provide customers with premium Internet and media-tasking options, as well as customized processing and storage capabilities. The Presario Internet PC is the best selling brand at U.S. retail, according to NPD Intelect, capturing the number one spot in 31 out 32 months from March 1997 to December 1999. Compaq is the second largest computer company in the world and the largest global supplier of computer systems.

Adaptec (Nasdaq: ADPT) is the global leader in innovative storage solutions. Adaptec's hardware and software solutions for e-business and Internet applications move, manage, and protect critical data and digital content. Adaptec's direct-attached storage, network storage solutions and desktop software solutions for digital content are found in high-performance networks, servers, workstations and desktops from the world's leading manufacturers, and are sold through distribution channels to ISPs, enterprises, medium and small businesses and consumers. Adaptec is an S&P 500 and a NASDAQ 100 member. More information is available at www.adaptec.com.
