TurboLinux, Inc., the high performance Linux company, announced Monday that Dell Computer Corporation (Nasdaq: DELL), the world's leading direct systems vendor, is now offering TurboLinux as a pre-installed option on Dell PowerEdge servers and Dell Precision Workstations in Hong Kong and China.

Under the original equipment manufacturing (OEM) agreement with TurboLinux, Dell customers in China and Hong Kong SAR can order servers and workstations with the TurboLinux operating system through either the Dell China Web site at http://www.dell.com.cn or the TurboLinux China Web site at http://www.turbolinux.com.cn.

"We are pleased to work with Dell in delivering to our customers TurboLinux pre-installed on Dell platforms, backed by our expert support," said Cliff Miller, CEO of TurboLinux. "Pre-installation makes it much easier for our corporate and government customers to begin deploying TurboLinux-based solutions throughout their enterprise."

"We are a customer-driven company," said David Chan, president of Dell China. "Dell's powerful one-to-one relationship with its customers ensures their requirements are met and expectations exceeded, whenever possible. Our cooperation with TurboLinux allows us to respond to customers who prefer this specific Linux distribution factory-loaded on Dell systems that are reliable and backed by outstanding support."

Dell and 21 other global hardware, software and professional services companies recently participated in a record $57 million investment in TurboLinux.

Dell began offering customers the option to factory-load TurboLinux in China and the Hong Kong SAR on January 31, 2000. In China, Dell systems with TurboLinux installed come with 90 days of email and Web-based support provided by TurboLinux. Support after the 90-day period, limited to three incidents, is available direct from Turbolinux. Customers can choose either simplified or traditional Chinese language versions of TurboLinux when they order Dell systems.
