BBC takes the wider view

Electronics Times, Nov 2, 1998

> The BBC plans to broadcast more than 25% of its peaktime programmes, such as Casualty, Dangerfield, Vanity Fair and Animal Hospital, in widescreen digital format. The number of such programmes will increase gradually next year in a bid to encourage the move to digital TV. For consumers still using analogue TV sets the widescreen format will show itself as two horizontal black bars above and below the picture.
