The Irish government is planning to sell off a large part of its 65% stake in Telecom Eireann, which would be the largest telecoms placement in Europe this year. Brokers estimate a 20% sale could raise #800m.The country's second largest carrier, Esat, has joined the Global One alliance, whose main partners are Deutsche Telekom, France Telecom and Sprint.
