Cadence appoints technology adviser

Alberto Sangiovanni-Vincentelli has been appointed chief technology adviser at Cadence Design Systems.

Sangiovanni-Vincentelli is professor of electrical engineering and computer sciences at the University of California, Berkeley. He will advise Cadence on technology strategy across the company's software product and methodology businesses, as well as its design realisation and electronics infusion services.

Sangiovanni-Vincentelli is a co-founder of Cadence and will continue in his role as a member of the company's board of directors.

His history with the firm includes developing Cadence Berkeley Labs in 1993 and the Cadence European Lab in Rome in 1996. He has also assisted the firm in the Project Alba development for system-on-chip design co- sponsored by Scottish Enterprise

Ray Bingham, president and CEO of Cadence, said: Alberto's credentials are unrivalled in the EDA industry. His vision has been a driving force behind key IC design technology as he helped guide the industry from its very infancy.
