AT&T puts #3m into Cambridge

Electronics Times, July 17, 2000

The AT&T Foundation and AT&T Laboratories have strengthened their links with Cambridge University by announcing a further #3m funding for its engineering department, one of the major drivers behind the town's technology hub.

The bulk of the money will be spent on developing a new communications systems programme in the department, and sponsoring research projects in the comms and sentient computing fields.

In addition, #350,000 of the allocation has already been spent on a roof-top extension.

Andy Hopper, professor of communications engineering at Cambridge and MD of AT&T Laboratories, said: "I am delighted that we are able to support further research and expansion at the engineering department and to help maintain its strong tradition of working closely with pioneering industrial partners."
