Now is the time for you to support YEDA

Electronics Times, July 17, 2000

This year's Young Electronic Designer Awards showed that solving engineering problems really can capture schoolchildren's enthusiasm.

The finals demonstrated just how good the results can be when that enthusiasm is properly harnessed, with projects which surprised with their quality of analysis, implementation and commercial viability.

What's needed now is for people like you and companies like yours to recognise the value of competitions such as YEDA to your own interests and those of the wider market.

Already sponsors such as National Semiconductor and Roxboro are publicising YEDA through their own channels, and getting good customer feedback for doing so.

Now YEDA needs more support from industry, be it in the form of open days, school visits, time off for individuals to run electronics clubs, industrial project partnership or even straightforward cash sponsorship.

At the awards dinner, the director of human resources for ARM Holdings argued that: `Now is the time to be an engineer.' Your involvement can open schoolkids' eyes to the truth of that statement - for their benefit, for your benefit, for the benefit of the industry - and for fun.

See www.yeda.org.uk for how to get involved.
