Printer controller board suits Epson printer mechanisms

Electronics Times, July 17, 2000

Configuring a built-in printer mechanism for OEM equipment is said to be made easier with Able Systems' latest dedicated printer controller board for Epson printer mechanisms, type M-T101, 2, and auto-cutter versions. The ATB-102 controller board measures 90 x 72mm, and mounts to the underside of the printer mechanism using the same mounting holes. A Windows driver is also available for download from the company's website.

The ATB-102 has nine external connectors for data, power and the printer mechanism. The standard data interface is RS232C, and an optional build is available to enable TTL serial data. Two non-printing modes include a spooling mode, where data is received and stored but not printed.

This can be invoked automatically when the paper runs out, helping to make it easier to change the paper roll without losing data. In idle mode, the printer motor is halted, so saving power. An auto-paper-load facility can also be provided, triggered by the integral paper-out sensor featured in the M-T102 and M-T102A printers.

This reflective optical paper sensor can also be used to sense registration marks on pre-printed forms.
