Electronics Times, July 24, 2000

Hitachi has launched a secure flash MultiMediaCard for storing digital contents requiring content protection. The card contains 16Mbyte of flash memory and uses a SuperH risc microcomputer as its CPU core, all made secure by built-in, high-speed security functions.

It is suitable for music distribution and similar applications on personal devices that handle digital information including mobile phones, portable music players and electronic organisers and pagers.

The card uses universal distribution with access control media base (UDAC-MB) general purpose content protection technology to achieve stringent security. It is also upward-compatible with the MultiMediaCard standard, and is of the same size, including thickness.

The secure card contains flash memory and a controller in a single chip. The 16Mbyte flash memory used is 0.25 micro m.
