CompactPCI system with eight slot limit - International Pages - Brief Article

Electronics Times, July 24, 2000

The PICMG 2.0 CompactPCI Specification, from Erni, limits CompactPCI systems to eight slots for a bus segment. So for larger CompactPCI systems, two or more PCIbus systems need to be bridges, as described in the PCI Bridge Specification 1.0.

For such bridging, ERmet female connectors in 2mm pitch, and in a straight design, will be used.

Another option is the vertical expansion of a system by functionally expanding individual plug-in cards of a system by means of auxiliary boards which are implemented using the stacked packing method. This vertical extension is also suitable for compact systems.
