Alcatel and Netergy link for VoDSL chips - Product Information - Brief Article

Electronics Times, June 26, 2000

Alcatel Microelectronics and Santa Clara-based Netergy are to collaborate on the development of chip sets and reference design platforms for voice over digital subscriber line (VoDSL) networks.

The agreement means the devices will use Netergy's Audacity T-2 processor and embedded software for packetised voice - dubbed Veracity - with Alcatel's DynaMiTe chip set for ADSL modems.

The companies will jointly market the chip sets to manufacturers of DSL- based integrated access devices.

According to market researchers, more than one million modems with VoDSL capabilities will be delivered in 2001. Alcatel is already the dominant supplier of DSL modem chips for the central office sector, according to Dataquest, with a 52% global share. Alcatel says the deal with Netergy (formerly known as 8x8) will help it in establishing a strong position in the VoDSL market as well.
