Toshiba Electronics can now supply a series of single chip DSPs which supports a wide range of audio compression formats, including those used in silicon audio players, DVD players and TVs.
The series includes the TC9446F-004, which supports the decoding of both AAC and MP3 compression formats, and the TC9446F-003, which supports encoding for Dolby Digital ProLogic and other audio-visual, including DVD. Both devices feature a 24bit x 24bit processor, 12kword data ram and 12kword program rom. In addition, there is a 128word program ram and up to 1Mbit external SRAM which can be used as data ram.

Operating from 3.3V supplies, the TC9446F series offers low power consumption in a 100pin QFP package and has an instruction cycle of 15.4ns. The devices also have digital audio input according to I2Sbus standard with four output ports and two input ports.
