Gorillas in our midst - Brief Article

Electronics Times, May 8, 2000

Gorillas in central east Africa may have a greater chance of escaping poachers thanks to a technology link up between the Georgia Institute of Technology and the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund.

Geographic information system data will be used in conjunction with GPS and wireless technology to measure how many gorillas an area can support and establish future habitat loss.

Georgia Tech has created a virtual environment (pictured) on its campus in Atlanta. It uses a three-screen projector system to allow visitors to immerse themselves in a 3D environment similar to that in gorilla habitat.
