Agilent looks for a larger role in optics - Brief Article

Agilent Technologies has acquired American Holographic in a bid to expand its presence in the fibre optic test and measurement market.

American Holographic produces diffraction gratings and spectral sensor modules for fibre optic comms systems, optical test equipment, colour measurement, pulse compression systems and spectrographs. The equipment is supplied to OEMs and end users worldwide.

American Holographic will continue to operate from its 2000sq m facility at Fitchburg, Massachusetts.Tom Mikes, CEO and president, believes that joining Agilent offers considerable benefits: "We firmly believe this acquisition provides the technological synergy that will allow us to quickly develop, manufacture and market our next generation of gratings."

On completion of the buy, American Holographic will become a wholly owned subsidiary within Agilent's Communications Solutions Group.

Financial terms were not disclosed.
