Monterey Design Systems has recruited two EDA industry veterans for senior management roles. Bill Alexander joins from Avant as vice- president of marketing. Henry Verheyen comes to Monterey from Aptix as vice-president of engineering. Also a former Avant executive, he has further experience with Viewlogic/Synopsys.

Franz Nawratil, Hewlett-Packard's corporate vice-president, has retired after 35 years with the company. Bernard de Valence, vice-president and general manager of the company's Y2K programme since 1998, will take Nawratil's place. During Nawratil's tenure, the company's European operations grew from $8.6bn to $18.1bn, before the company's spin-off of Agilent Technologies. Nawratil, also CEO of HP Europe, Middle East and Africa, has been responsible for sales, marketing and support of the company's multiple businesses in these regions.

William Voltmer has been appointed as president and CEO of iris recognition technology specialist IriScan. He joined the company last year as its senior vice-president for sales and marketing. John Siedlarz, former president and CEO, has been appointed chairman. He will also continue as IriScan's official government and industry spokesman.

KC Controls has recruited Mark Howarth as general manager. He has previously worked for Eurotherm, Fisher-Rosemount, Peek Measurement and Roxspur Measurement & Control.

ICL has promoted Austen Mulinder to the post of president and CEO for north America. He was previously vice-president for ICL's customer relationship management offering. He joined the company in 1984.
