DGx image recording system uses FireWire

Electronics Times, Jan 15, 2001

Crellon Microsystems has launched the DGx digital image recording systems which uses FireWire (IEEE 1394) bandwidth to capture, compress, store and replay high scan rate video signals at up to 1280 x 1204pixel resolution.

These include computer, radar and other digital image data. Compressed images are stored to a digital tape recorder or disc drive using the FireWire interface.

The DGx system, developed by RGB Spectrum, provides four input channels supporting high scanrate video signals with optional PAL or NTSC.

Images from two selected channels can be output to separate monitors, or a single monitor can display up to four quarter-size representations of the recorded images.

DGx supports output frame rates of 25fps at 640 x 480pixel resolution, or 6fps at 1280 x 1204.

Two audio input channels are available for digitised audio recorded with the video data, and enabling stereo playback.

The system also supports event marking using SMPTE standard time coding. This is accomplished manually using the front panel control or via serial commands over an RS232 interface.
