TOKYO, Aug. 12 Kyodo
Naoto Kan, secretary general of the Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ), the main opposition party, embarked Monday on a six-day visit to the United States.
Kan departed from Narita airport, outside Tokyo, Monday morning for the United States upon invitation from the Center for Strategic and International Studies, a think tank in Washington.

During his stay until Saturday, Kan will meet experts, including Harvard University professor Erza Vogel, to discuss U.S.-Japan relations, terrorism and other issues, DPJ officials said.
