TOKYO, Feb. 26 Kyodo
Japan ''strongly condemns'' a suicide bombing carried out apparently by a Palestinian in Tel Aviv, Israel, late Friday local time, Foreign Ministry spokesman Hatsuhisa Takashima said Saturday.
The act of terror is in ''defiance of peace efforts by the Israeli government and the Palestinian Authority,'' Takashima said in a statement.
He urged the Palestinian Authority to try as much as possible to crack down on terrorists.
On Feb. 8, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon declared that they would end all violent and military activity against each other, a crucial step that may lead to the resumption of peace talks that stalled four years ago.

Following the suicide bombing, Sharon hinted at retaliatory action, saying his country will not yield to terrorism.
The incident, in which a suicide bomber killed at least four people and injured about 50 outside a Tel Aviv nightclub, was the first such tragedy since the Nov. 1 blast in a Tel Aviv open-air market.
