IATA Releases 1997 World Air Transport Statistics

Last year, the top ten global carriers as ranked by scheduled passengers carried remained virtually unchanged from 1996, according to the International Air Transport Association's (IATA) 1997 World Air Transport Statistics, released this week. Of the top ten, only British Airways and Lufthansa showed any movement, switching places as numbers eight and nine.

Finnair and South African Airways made it to the top 50 in 1997, entering as the 44th and 48th ranked carriers, respectively. Copies of the full 130-page report are available for US$165 through IATA at 41 22 799-2751 or via Email at sales@iata.org.
