Proceedings from AMERICAN FORESTS' 2001 National Urban Forest Conference are now available. The Proceedings offer a snapshot of innovative work on urban ecosystems contained in 41 papers presented during the September conference.

Among the items of interest:

* Information presented by Ray Suarez, senior correspondent for PBS' "The Newshour with Jim Lehrer," and other reporters during a journalists' roundtable.

* Stormwater runoff, water quality, and development alternatives.

* New advances in quantifying the environmental benefits of trees.

The Proceedings are $35 plus shipping and handling. Checks payable to AMERICAN FORESTS can be mailed to: Robby Ferguson, 910 17th Street, NW, Suite 600, Washington, DC 20006.

You can also order a copy of "From Gray to Green: Reversing the Urban Tree Deficit," a video produced by AMERICAN FORESTS for the conference. The $10 video shows the benefits trees offer urban areas and how computer software can be combined with satellite imagery and aerial photography to determine the environmental and economic values city trees provide.
