> A joint U.S.-Canadian survey finds the five Great Lakes remain among the world's best sources of water, despite encrouching sprawl, Reuters reports. The Great Lakes Basin holds 20 percent of the world's fresh water. The 82-page report by Environment Canada and the Environmental Protection Agency cited improvements in pollutants clean-up and in bringing back birds and fish but noted the spread of non-native species and fish that were too poison-laden to eat.
