The National Center for Atmospheric research will use a superfast IBM supercomputer to process information about weather and climate change, according to Reuters News Service. The new supercomputer will process the information at a rate of 7 trillion calculations per second, seven times faster than the current rate.

The $24 million supercomputer, code-named "Blue Sky," was bought by the National Science Foundation, which is the chief sponsor for the research center, based in Colorado.
