Cool communities heats up: Clinton plan expands program

American Forests, Jan-Feb, 1994

Florida and Arizona set the pace as a new Clinton plan puts this urban program on the fast track.

THE CLINTON Administration's "Climate Change Action Plan" calls for an enormous expansion of the Cool Communities program in cities and federal facilities. Under the new plan, AMERICAN FORESTS will work with the Department of Energy (DOE) and a host of existing and new partners to expand the program from its current seven demonstration communities to a total of 250 cities and 100 Department of Defense bases over the next 10 years. The Clinton Administration proposes to spend $2 million toward this goal in FY 1995 and a total of $12 million through 2000.
