WhistlePunks and SliverPickers. - video recording reviews

American Forests, Nov-Dec, 1994 by Carl Reidel

This children's video is billed as "a captivating behind-the-scenes adventure starring big rigs, fast machines and the women and men who drive them." It takes kids three to nine into Oregon's forests and sawmills to meet "real people working in tough, exciting, and sometimes dangerous jobs."

But I doubt that it will hold the interest of kids or adults for 30 minutes. There is no story line, and some special-effects gimmicks, like reverse replays where fallen trees rise again and boards rejoin into logs, just don't work.

And it is not a look at forestry or "earth-friendly;" there is nothing about forest management or ecology. You can't do everything in 30 minutes, but even kids need to know that there is more to a forest than tall trees and 2x4's.
