The Nature Directory: A Guide to Environmental Organizations
American Forests, Nov-Dec, 1991 by Wallace Kaufman
The back cover of this directory lists some of the major conservation organizations a reader will find inside, including the American Forestry Association "and more." In the case of AFA, it's less. Despite AFA's absence, the inside of the book is populated with brief descriptions and membership information on familiar groups like the Sierra Club and Wilderness Society to the less familiar Elmwood Institute (a California think tank) and the National Coalition to Stop Food Irradiation. This last group has little to do with the environment and has demonstrated a peculiar ignorance of even the nature of radiation.
Two brief appendices tell how to become active in conservation and how to contact government agencies. Recommend it to your local school library as a basic source of information for students, but only if the librarian will let you tape in a page on the American Forestry Association.
