Maps as objects of material culture

Magazine Antiques, Jan, 2001 by Margaret Beck Pritchard

(23.) Dr. and Mrs. William Carter Stubbs, A History of Two Virginia Families... (Privately printed, New Orleans, Louisiana, 1918), p. 13. I would like to thank Henry Taliaferro for providing this reference.

(24.) Botetourt's payment to John Henry for the map is in the account books now at Badminton House, Gloucester, England. Botetourt also sent one of John Henry's petitions to Wills Hill (1718-1793), marquis of Downshire and second viscount Hillsborough, on November 24, 1768 (Hood, Governor's Palace in Williamsburg, pp. 159 and 324 n. 59).
