Calendar of Shows--January 2004

January 1, 2004. New York, NY. NEW YEAR'S DAY ANTIQUES SHOW returns to the Metropolitan Pavilion. 125 West 18th Street (between 6th & 7th Avenues), $10 admission. 11am-6 pm. Deco furniture, estate and vintage jewelry, other fine furniture, antique desk and tabletop accessories, fine art--both 19th and 20th century--vintage clothing & textiles, and more. Cash bar and refreshments, too.

January 16-25. New York, NY. The Seventh Regiment Armory, 67th Street and Park Avenue. The Winter Antiques Show celebrates its 50th year as America's most prestigious antiques show featuring 74 renowned experts in American, English, European, and Asian fine and decorative arts. Michael Bloomberg, Mayor of New York City, is the Show's Honorary Chairman. Proceeds benefit East Side House Settlement. The Loan Exhibition is "A Celebration of the American Wing of The Metropolitan Museum of Art." The American Wing curators will select their favorite Chippendale tea tables, Sargent portraits, Tiffany vases, and other treasures to create an unprecedented display of the "best of the best." January 9-11. West Palm Beach, FL. PALM BEACH WINTER ANTIQUES SHOW & SALE. Crowne Plaza Hotel. This highly diversified show featuring 50 dealers of renown with emphasis on period furniture and accessories, fine art, items for the serious collector, the designer and more. Hours: Friday, Saturday 11 am-6 pm, Sunday 11 am-5 pm. Admission: $12.00. Preview Party Thursday, January 9. January 14-18. THE 5TH ANNUAL NEW YORK CERAMICS FAIR at the National Academy of Design, 1083 5th Ave. & 89th Street. 40 Select International Dealers offering ceramics, glass & enamels. January 15-18. New York, NY. The American Folk Art Museum's fundraising event, THE AMERICAN ANTIQUES SHOW (TAAS)--now in its 3rd year--is the only venue that offers Americana and folk art under one roof. To underscore its American heritage, TAAS will present a timely display "Lame Ducks and other Political Animals: The Art of Politics." This presentation pairs choice items for sale such as quilts, paintings, samplers, weathervanes, furniture, and sculptures from TAAS dealers with photo blowups of patriotic objects and political animals from the museum's collection. Just the ticket in an election year! The Gala Benefit Preview: Wed, January 14 6:30-9 pm; a special Early Preview: 5 pm. January 16, 17, 18. New York, NY. THE 9TH ANNUAL ANTIQUES AT THE ARMORY continues to be one of the most important and stylish shows during Americana Week in New York. This event showcases 100 exhibits with extraordinary American, English and European furniture, architectural elements, fine art, tapestries, Americana, folk art, fine silver, ceramics, clocks and lighting. Stella Show Mgmt. Co. provides free shuttle service between Antiques at the Armory, the Winter Antiques Show at the Park Avenue Armory, Antiques @ the Piers, and TASS. Antiques at the Armory runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 16-18 at the historic 69th Regiment Armory in Gramercy Park, Lexington Avenue at 26th Street, NYC. January 16, 17, 18. Annapolis, MD. 34th ANNUAL HISTORIC ANNAPOLIS ANTIQUES SHOW. Celebrating its 34th year, the Historic Annapolis Antiques Show will feature dealers from around the country with American and English period furniture and clocks, paintings and watercolors, ceramics, Oriental rugs, jewelry and silver, children's books, folk art, garden furniture and ornament, and much more. Special events include a Gala Preview Party on Thursday, January 15, 6-9 pm; a lecture on Tiffany & Co. on Friday, January 16, 12 Noon; a symposium on Annapolis silversmiths of the 18th C. on Saturday, January 17, 9 am, and an exhibit of 18th C. Annapolis silver and coins. The show is held at the National Guard Armory, Hudson St. off West St., outside of Annapolis in Parole. Admission is $8. Hours are Friday and Saturday, 11-6, and Sunday, 12-5. Lunch is available daily.
