June fairs in London - antique fairs in London, England - Brief Article

Magazine Antiques, May, 2000 by Miriam Kramer

Seven antiques fairs will be held in London this spring. The Grosvenor House Art and Antiques Fair, which takes place from June 14 to June 20 at Le Meridien Grosvernor House on Park Lane, is accompanied by a royal loan exhibit that includes the coronation robe worn by Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother on May 12, 1937. A number of objects from the Queen Mother's private collection are on view at the stand of the British Antique Dealers Association, including a portrait of her painted in 1967 by Graham Sutherland.

At the International Ceramics Fair and Seminar to be held at the Park Lane Hotel, Piccadilly, from June l6 to June 19, the loan exhibition is drawn from the collection of Chinese blue-and-white wares of 1560 to 1645 amassed by a Dutch collector (see illustration below). Clemens van der Ven is the curator of the loan exhibition, which comprises some sixty pieces and illustrates the development of the domestic and export markets for Ming porcelain within that time span. The loan exhibition was sponsored by circline.com.

The Antiquarian Booksellers' Association International Book Fair will take place at Olympia from June 8 to June 11. Olympia will also be the site of the Fine Art and Antiques Fair from June 8 to June 18; the 20th Century Art and Design Fair from June l4 to June l7 and the HALI Antique Carpet and Textile Art Fair from June 15 to June 19. Art London is on view at the Duke of York's Headquarters on King's Road from June l4 to June 18.
