The Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts (MESDA), in partnership with the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG), has announced that their graduate Summer Institute will take place from June 25 to July 21, 2000. The program is designed for graduate students and museum professionals interested in American history and material culture.
Enrollment is limited to twenty students, and classes will take place at MESDA. This summer the institute will focus on the early southern backcountry, including the Piedmont and western regions of Maryland, Virginia, North and South Carolina, and Georgia, as well as Tennessee and Kentucky The curriculum includes lectures, discussions, workshops, artifact studies, research projects, and field trips conducted by members of the staff and faculty of MESDA, Old Salem in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and UNCG with the assistance of guest lecturers. Three hours of graduate credit in history are awarded through UNCG. The deadline for applications is April 20, 2000.
