Pisano's groundbreaking study examines the thirty-one painters, sculptors, and architects who established the Tile Club in New York City in 1877. Over the ensuing decade its members, including Homer, Saint-Gaudens, Twachtman, Chase, and Stanford White, created astonishingly beautiful tiles and championed the importance of tiles in the creation of the artistic interior. Included in this exhibition catalogue are some seventy tiles. 46 colorplates, 60 illustrations. In Art Nouveau Tiles the authors explore the various techniques used to create these beautifully decorated tiles, which embody all of the stylistic hallmarks of the art nouveau taste. Practical information about marks display, and repair is included 200 colorplates.
