U.S. Pavilions at the Plovdiv and Bucharest Fall Fairs. Sept. 27-Oct. 3, and Oct. 11-17, 1993. These are the most important marketing events in southeastern Europe. Any company attempting to establish a presence in the region is strongly advised to join other exhibitors in the U.S. Pavilion at either, or both, of these shows. Both Bulgaria and Romania have shown remarkable stability in a region that is characterized by volatility. Each has embarked on ambitious reform programs whose elements include democracy, transition to market economies, and privatization of formerly state-owned industries. In the past few years, U.S. companies have used their booths at these fairs to: sign up dozens of agents and distributors to represent them in the Bulgarian and Romanian markets; seek out joint-venture partners and subsidiaries from the ranks of state-owned companies undergoing privatization; and earn many thousands of dollars in export sales. Best industry prospects for these events are in agriculture/food processing, energy/environment, telecommunications, electronics, and medical technology. Fees per booth are $3,700 for Plovdiv and $4,500 for Bucharest. Catalog space is available as well. For further information, call Jeremy Keller at (202) 482-4915.
