Quebec's free trade growth strategy - Canada

Business America, April 20, 1992 by Julie Snyder

Meeting the Economic Challenges - The province's recognition of its industrial assets is a critical first step. Development of Quebec's "Grappes Industrielles" in the 1990s will depend upon the North American economic realities and the outcome of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) negotiations. Other, more localized factors, also will impact on the future of Quebec's industries. One positive development is the merger of two business organizations, the Montreal Board of Trade and the Chambre De Commerce, forming one large entity which also encompasses the activities of the Montreal World Trade Center. in sum, Quebec's determination to be a dynamic business center in North America through the 1990s and beyond presents both opportunities and challenges for U.S. exporters.
