Commerce Department services assist women business owners

Business America, Feb 18, 1985

"The Economic Development Administration (EDA) assists stress areas of the country by creating long-term jobs,' said J. Bonnie Newman, Assistant Secretary of EDA, to the group of businesswomen. Newman pointed out that women business owners should be aware of the following services provided by EDA if they are considering doing business in an economically distressed area: EDA provides loan guarantees to help private businesses expand or locate in distressed areas; grants to establish revolving loan funds to provide capital for small businesses in distressed areas; public works grants to design, construct, or rehabilitate public facilities in distressed areas; grants to provide technical assistance to businesses, jurisdictions, and nonprofit organizations working in economically distressed areas; and research grants to evaluate economic development issues and programs.
