Troy D. Perry, founder-moderator of the predominantly gay Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches, was to receive an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree May 22 from the Episcopal Divinity School, Cambridge, Massachusetts. The divinity school community "stands for justice, compassion and reconciliation for all God's people," said President Steven Charleston in announcing the honor.

"Troy Perry stands with us." Last year's recipient was Nobel Peace Prize-winner Anglican Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
