* Robert M. Franklin, president of the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta for the last five years, plans to retire by year's end. His decision followed severe injuries to both his knees in April during a sabbatical trip. "In view of the extended period of recuperation recommended by my physician, and the desire to continue my sabbatical travel and research, it makes sense to step aside and allow ITC to select new leadership," Franklin informed the institution's board of trustees in May.

While serving as president of the consortium of African-American theological schools, Franklin has helped increase the size of the student body, establish programs to train faith-based institutions in AIDS prevention, and gain a reaffirmation of accreditation.
