Abundance of guns …

I THANK John Buchanan for speaking out against the gun lobby ("Gun play," May 17). His observations from the daily news point to the overabundance of firearms as the root of the problem. Characterized by avarice, commercialism and a blind eye to the victims of gun violence, the gun industry has couched its profiteering agenda in everything from fundamentalist ideology to patriotic duty. The industry's unwillingness to adopt a spirit of corporate responsibility and accountability has led to the death of thousands of innocents. Five years ago, my 16-year-old son was one of these. It's time to speak up.
