Easy

Christian Century, June 19, 2002 by Catherine Abbey Hodges

Easy

The jacaranda blossoms have had their day,
   razzled their dazzle,
garnered their annual oohs and ahs.
   Now comes the
   slo-mo mid-June fall from grace,
the inexplicit purple shawl about the lovely old neck,
   easy on the grassy shoulders

easy in the eye of the beholder
who sees all in a rush
that today's grace, this quiet draped mosaic,
in truer than yesterday's bright fanfare--
   though neither is false
and easy is anything but cheap.
