* In a first, an exhibition on Anglicanism and its role in the Christian tradition of the West opened to the public June 4 in the Vatican Museums. "This is the first time that the Vatican has given space to an exhibition by another Christian church with which the Vatican is not in communion," said Cardinal Edmund Szoka, president of the government of the Vatican city-state.

Speaking at an opening ceremony attended by dignitaries from both churches and a delegation from the English cathedral town of Norwich, Szoka called the exhibition "a fine example of cooperation between Anglican and Roman Catholic historians and scholars." Archbishop of Canterbury George Carey was to visit the exhibition on June 21 when in Rome for his last audience with Pope John Paul II before he retires on October 31 as spiritual leader of the worldwide Anglican Communion, the cardinal said.
