Attridge named dean at Yale Divinity School
Christian Century, July 3, 2002
A widely respected New Testament scholar has been appointed new dean of Yale Divinity School. Harold Attridge, a Catholic layman who came to Yale University in 1997 from the University of Notre Dame, served as president last year of the Society of Biblical Literature.
As of July 1, Attridge replaced Rebecca Chopp, who had surprised theological school officials this spring by accepting the presidency of Colgate University after only a year in the top job at Yale Divinity.
Yale University President Richard C. Levin said Attridge "will have the full support of the university" in leading the divinity school in preparation for ministry and "encouraging the study of religion in a university environment."
