* The Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod has made one of the largest budget cuts in the denomination's history, setting a budget for the fiscal year that began July 1 that is $10 million less than the current one. The trimmed budget will likely translate into the elimination of some work and staff at the LCMS international office near St.

Louis. The cutbacks may mean that few new programs will be initiated. LCMS Chief Administrative Officer Brad Hewitt said that overall the Sunday morning offerings aren't down, but what congregations send to headquarters from those offerings is down. "That's been a long-term trend over the past 15 to 20 years," he said.
