Suzan Johnson Cook, senior pastor of the Bronx Christian Fellowship, has been elected president of the Hampton (Virginia) University Ministers' Conference, the largest interdenominational conference of black clergy in the U.S. As such, she is the first woman in that post in the conference's 88 years.

Cook, a former member of the American Baptist Churches' general board, served for 13 years as pastor of the Mariners' Temple Baptist Church in Manhattan where she led the New York City church in a tenfold increase in members.
