Central Presbyterian Church

Christian Century, August 28, 2002

* Theodore (Ted) Wardlaw, pastor of Central Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, Georgia, has been elected president of Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Texas. In mid-November Wardlaw will become the ninth president since the seminary's founding in 1902 when he succeeds Robert M. Shelton, who is retiring.

Wardlaw, a South Carolina native, has also served churches in New York, Texas and Tennessee. Praised for a conciliatory style and commitment to the PCUSA, Wardlaw was lauded in a speech by incoming moderator Fahed Abu-Akel for being a "bridge builder"--a leader in the Greater Atlanta Presbytery who helped find common ground on contentious issues of the church.
