* Allan Boesak, the high-profile South African minister imprisoned a year ago on theft and fraud convictions, was released on parole May 22 after serving just over a third of his sentence, reported the Tablet, a Catholic weekly in Great Britain. Prison officials described him as a model prisoner, but added that he will be restricted in his movements while on parole.
On the night of his release, the former president of the World Alliance of Reformed Churches preached at the Church of His People in Cape Town. Boesak continues to protest his innocence. The courts found he had illegally used donations to the Foundation for Peace and Justice, which he directed.
