UN FOR RELIGIONS: John C. Danforth, U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, says that the time has come for the religious leaders of the world to get involved in resolving conflicts. He notes that many of today's conflicts are not between nations, but between peoples and religions. "If there are people who believe that God commands them to shoot children in the back and if we start with that kind of belief, is there any voice against it and if so, where is that voice?" His ideas are still in formation, but he envisions ma international forum for mediating religious conflict, a forum that involves people of faith.

Danforth, a former Republican senator from Missouri, is an Episcopal priest (New York Times, September 13).
